The Blackshore compromises multiple universes in an n-point circle; that is: the universes rotate in orbits around the three central suns which orbit one another in an infinity motion that creates whirlpool like gravitational waves to keep the universes afloat evenly. Because of these rotations, every 200 tides (roughly 16 full seasonal cycles) a total eclipse is created where all three suns and the planets themselves align completely for roughly one fleeting moment; making it near impossible for Black Sun prophecies to ever come true. These gravitational waves also affect time, of course: a tide is how they measure years but not the years that Earth knows. Instead, in The Blackshore, spending one hour on a planet is the same as 7 years passing on Earth. A'suri and X'arna both mature at the same rate as humans, however, until they reach their prime and they stop aging, meaning even though they may be thousands of years old, they are spiritually, mentally, and physically (semantics, really) only a few decades old at best, usually.
To break the math down easier: it has been near 25 years since Vesper was born, but the moment he was born will mark 10,731,000 years that have passed in The Blackshore. That is: 219,000 Earth hours since he was born, the equivalent of 10,731,000 years in the Blackshore. (One year is 8,760 hours of Earth Time: 219,000 x 7 = 10,731,000). Of course, it also just means that none of the A'suri or X'arna measure time the same and though they do not view themselves as true immortals (since they can be killed), they are all functionally such. Vesper is technically millions of years old, but he is functionally not, as he has mostly only spent brief periods in The Blackshore and his biological clock is more adjusted to the timestream of Earth. He is only turning 25 in February.
Aside from this dilation of time, The Blackshore functions much like a tangible, Earth-based universe in spite of being a plane of immaterial existence. Spiritual wanders with the physical there as if it were no big deal, and the flux of time, gravity and all else does not really hinder the nature of the inhabitants at all. The worst of the danger comes in the constant push of the Pitch-Black always trying to steal more planets from The Black Shore's sky, but it is the duty of the Shorekeeper (Vesper's Mama) and others like her — powerful leaders of the various species of The Blackshore — to constantly stand vigilant against the war and keep the Darkness at bay.
